Moving With Illumination

Moving with Illumination is an interactive running center situated in New Market on the corner of Nutfield Street. Moving with illumination surrounds the idea of Dramatizing a space to reveal the experience of motion and movement that is annotated in comics. My storefront is designed to bring the movements from comics to life. The running track wraps around the exterior surface. The Frosted glass will create silhouettes of the runners, whilst the large metal waves follow their movement as they run. This allows the storefront to come to life and be a part of the interior to entice the public with curiosity.

Tron the comic and the 1973 Defenders comic heavily inspired elements of my retail store. From the colors and the lines that create movement within. When you enter my store on the ground floor, you are greeted with multiple pods. These pods have an exercise bike placed inside and as you cycle the pods will illuminate different lighting sequences depending on your speed and motion. As members run up the lightly lit stairs they begin running through the large quirky-shaped running track that loops around the entirety of the interior building, leading you out to become a part of the storefront. The tunnel in the interior is lit with different LED light simulations that follow you as you run through. This is to reveal your movement of running, inspired by how the gestures following a character in comics give movement to a still picture. The walls of the tunnel are a digital screen, when
a member enters the tunnel a digital avatar appears on the wall following them as they move. The space feels mysterious but lit in the areas that encourage movement, which then flows into the rest of the space, with colors that stimulate energy and movement.
