Muriel: A game based on "Days on Sea, Loch, and River" by Muriel Foster.
Muriel is a game based on the fishing diary "Days on Sea, Loch, and River" by Muriel Foster. The project is a 2D, relaxing, fishing simulator where the goal is to simply catch fish and relax.
I was heavily inspired by Muriel Foster's fishing diary when I first read it, and was captivated by the illustrations and life she lived nearly one hundred years ago. My project explored whether I can utilise game to create a faithful adaptation of unorthodox media, and whether this adaptation is capable of conveying the same emotional responses as the original.
I created this project using Rebelle 7 to simulate traditional watercolour, and Unity to program and design the game. While programming, I wanted to emphasise semi-realistic, yet convincing fish AI. When creating the assets, I wanted to paint as closely to Muriel’s style as possible.
As of 2024, the game is a demo with potential for further development.
