As Owairoa Marae approaches its 90 year anniversary, this project investigates how Te Ao Māori research and design can communicate and commemorate the 90 years of history of the marae. The project grounds itself in Te Ao Māori values and guidance from kaumatua of Owairoa, recognising the importance of its history and taonga in a way that shows the significance to Owairoa Marae.
The project explores how a publication with supporting activations of posters and a timeline can visually display what is important to the marae. The project considers how Te Ao Māori design approaches may influence connection, identity and belonging with Howick. The study aims to contribute a design response that honours Owairoa Marae and the community around it.
