Reach (Sroich in Irish - Be able to touch)

Reach (Sroich in Irish - Be able to touch) explores the possibility of healing through making. I believe art can facilitate healing, but not in a direct way. Rather, art, including its making, can open a space that becomes a place of holding; a resting place where trauma, complicated feelings, and heavy emotions can be deposited, allowing respite and analysis from a safe distance.

Working across painting and sculpture, I use a variety of materials to add texture and form. Repetition is a dominating aspect in my practice, through sculptural iteration and numerical multiplication. Balance and order are driving themes throughout my work as they provide consistency and grounding through moments of uncertainty. The work itself challenges my control over any sense of a fixed outcome, thereby enabling collaboration and a more authentic form to emerge.

Reach offers a quiet space of reflection for viewers to sit with the aftermath of their experiences. The installation allows for a reverberation of sharing across time, a slowing down, a pause of understanding. It memorialises and binds emotion through material conveyance.
