This practice-led art project raises the question of how to blend Chinese traditional culture and art to express traditional values. Inspired by the illustrated book ‘The Classic of Mountains and Rivers’ ( 觀山海 ), the project combines traditional hell concepts with art, bringing ancient textual accounts to the modern world through illustrations. Various research methods were employed in this project, including reading historical literature, creating illustrations, and narrating in classical Chinese ( 文言文 ). The final output is an illustrated book titled ‘Realm of the Abyss’( 幽冥圖鑑 ). The project aims to convey cultural traditions and stimulate readers to think about ethics and values while providing new perspectives and understandings for the modern communication of traditional values.
