A contemporary-styled retail comic book store in traditional Korean design, through the storytelling of time and motion.
Red 'In Time' represents a space of imagination, emphasising the comic gutter that illustrates scenes existing in-between moments.
The design features unique elements that depict various forms of movement related to time, including comic display panels, seating arrangements, and window placements. The style draws inspiration from the Joseon Period of Korean architecture, which emphasises the use of natural materials, minimalism, and a harmonious integration with the surrounding environment.
Amidst the chaos of Newmarket, Red 'In Time' aims to create a sanctuary where time feels suspended. There’s no need to rush out of the ‘Red Zone.’
In this design, red serves as a symbolic colour. In comics, red typically represents intense and angry emotions. With this perspective, I aimed to incorporate red into a space that embodies clarity, calmness, and pause.
The interaction between the space and its users should feel like a soothing journey—a time for reflection, socialisation, or getting lost in the timeless world of a comic book, all while being immersed in an atmosphere of harmony. This design reflects the in-between spaces of a traditionally overshadowed time.
