Rehearsal, Performance, Reflection, Repeat, is a filmic installation that explores how everyday performative movements are informed by systematic understandings of the self.

The video presents specific rituals in an endeavour to become the ‘self’; and critiques the meaning of self for an individual. In a world where we are constantly subjected to the camera, Chloe Giles asks herself where is the performance?

The video reflects her individual experience, in a generation who struggle to maintain a sense of self, within a world that implores us to become something else.

Within her artwork, Giles aims to provoke thoughts and feelings, that simulate a very human experience of this technological age, where beauty often becomes indicative of value.

Rehearsal, Performance, Reflection, Repeat incites both feelings of solidarity and discomfort, mirroring the experience of feeling and being watched daily, while never really knowing where the watchful eyes of a person or camera are situated. The moment of a shared gaze, followed by a process of reflection, evokes the effects of being caught in such candidness. She performs a constant state of awareness of the self, yet she is stuck in the process of figuring out how the self can candidly manifest in such a surveillanced age.
