Using typography to convey the effects of a stroke and the process of change through recovery and rehabilitation.

Rewired is a practice-led design project that utilises typography and typographic exploration to convey the effects of a stroke. This project reflects the question: how can typography be used to express the effects of a stroke and the process of recovery and rehabilitation? Embedded within this exploration is a secondary, practice-oriented question: how can this project serve as both an informational and educational resource, raising awareness about this pressing medical emergency? Rewired employs heuristic inquiry methodology and other methods of practice such as planning and research, observation, reflection in and on action, critical feedback and prototyping. Rewired’s purpose is to emphasise the severity of a stroke and the process of change, both from a design lens, as well as to shed light on this serious and prevalent health concern. Additionally, it delves into the concept of the post-stroke brain's adaptability, illustrating how it can undergo ‘rewiring,’ ultimately leading to improved daily functioning.
