Explore, Connect and Feel at Home!
My project explored how design and gamification can support university diaspora students in finding belonging and adapting to a new environment. I was motivated by my own experiences as an international student and the struggle of adjusting to life in Auckland when I first arrived. In response, “Roamies: Roaming in Auckland” is a board game brand that encourages students to make new friendships, explore the city and learn about Kiwi culture in a playful and interactive way.
The game features a set of five mascot characters, each representing diverse backgrounds and personalities. The gameplay is linked to real Auckland landmarks, everyday cultural experiences and encourages players to discover the city together. I used illustration, 3D modelling, laser cutting and physical prototyping to bring the game to life.
“Roam!es” offers a fresh, creative and engaging way to assist international students beyond standard orientation. Transforming the challenge of settling into a new country into an experience of discovery, connection and shared belonging.
