Bachelor of Design Publication Personal History Mixed Media Storytelling Identity Narrative

How can book publication act as a tool of exploration for authentic expression of self-identity through collaged-visuals which communicate a thought-evoking narrative? We commonly identify ‘inauthenticity’ as not ‘expressing’ ourselves genuinely within social contexts, further misunderstanding how external influences impact our authentic self-expression as an overall aspect rather than dependent on various social environments. Searching explores what authenticity means within my own expression through a recount of my experiences and emotions, using collage as a tool of self-discovery. This project is intended for young individuals 16 to 24 years old, who find that their own expression has become ‘inauthentic’ to themselves either through moments, emotions or thoughts. Ultimately, Searching becomes a space of comfort to support young individuals, emphasising ‘you are not alone’. By sharing my own experience, I hope young individuals can begin to understand what authenticity means to them and the difference between their own perception of ‘inauthenticity’.
