A living narrative told through light and shadows
Drawn from the similarity between the way comic gutters frame narratives and the dynamic light-play of Japanese screen doors, Shadow Box is an immersive space where creativity flows. Like comics, paper screens Illustrate a vague story of what's within, illuminated by warm light and framed by delicate wood. It is a place where storytelling and community converge as its subdued narrative is captured and displayed by the shadows cast on paper screens. My proposed design aims to bring together artists, readers and the curious of all levels together to share their experiences. The store offers curated graphic novels, comics and manga as well as art materials to create from these inspiring works. There is a large space for group workshops or individual artists. The shelves have integrated lighting and paper screens allowing the book's presence or lack thereof to tell their own story.
