Spectacle of self
This collection explores queer identity and self-expression. It looks at how queer individuals often feel pressured to hide their true selves due to the way society often sees them as spectacles, like circus clowns who are both fascinating and fear-inducing. By creating parallels between the experiences of queer people and the role of clowns in a circus, the collection highlights the performative aspects of identity, and the stigma associated with being seen as "weird" or "abnormal."
Additionally, the collection investigates the expression of gender, or the deliberate lack of, through androgyny. It considers how androgynous fashion which often is shapeless, oversized clothing that hides the wearer's biological form can serve as both self-expression and self-protection.
The collection aims to create a deeper understanding of the nature of queer identity and the ways in which self-expression can be both a form of resistance and a source of empowerment.
