Stitching Memory

Bachelor of Visual Arts Mixed Media Photography Craft Feminism Material Thinking Craft

My practice explores the intersection of memory, place, and textile materiality, examining how personal experiences and significant places can be embodied and reactivated through textile based processes. I translate photographs of place into fabric, exploring how memory can take physical form. Fabric evokes a sense of warmth, comfort, and belonging, and I draw on these associations to weave memory and emotion into my work, using stitching as a form of remembering.

Sewing, embroidery, and hand stitching are central to my practice, connecting to feminist histories of domestic labour while emphasising resilience. Through these processes, I create tactile works that materialise memory, situate it within place, and invite viewers to engage with the instability of recollection. My practice considers how personal experiences of place shape belonging and connection while reflecting on the ongoing dialogue between memory and material.
