Mineral suncream intentionally designed for the female body

Many conventional chemical sunscreens contain endocrine-disrupting ingredients that may affect female hormonal balance and reproductive health. This project proposes a mineral-based suncream designed to work in harmony with the body while supporting women with active coastal lifestyles. It is intended for women aged 20-25 living in coastal communities such as Whangamatā, who enjoy surfing, spending time outdoors, and maintaining a healthy relationship with sun exposure through hormone-safe sun protection. The project is informed by research on the effects of chemical UV filters on female hormones, alongside studies of mineral sunscreen formulations and active coastal living. Methods include reflective workbook documentation, moodboarding, secondary research, brainstorming, case study analysis, and persona development to guide design decisions. The project contributes to design practice by promoting women’s health through informed, hormone-safe sun protection that supports wellbeing and active lifestyles.
