"The House" is a 2D top-down narrative mystery game centred around a young maid named Alice. Bound by a demanding three-day work cycle and strict house rules, Alice must balance daily chores, such as tidying rooms and managing interactive minigames, with rich, dialogue-driven exploration. Set within an atmospheric, winding estate, the game explores themes of duty, isolation, and uncovering unsettling hidden truths beneath a polished surface.
My research question asked, "How can environmental storytelling reveal hidden narratives to players?" As a solo developer, my work encompasses the entire spectrum of the project (Art, Programming, and Design). Through this process, I explored how environmental clues, interactive task loops, and branching dialogues work together to build player immersion and convey hidden story elements.
