Got Blues. Listen to Jazz
The Improvised Frame explores the development of a visual identity for a jazz film festival that celebrates the relationship between jazz and cinema. The project responds to the underappreciated genre of jazz among younger audiences and consider how communication design can make the genre more accessible and engaging for younger generations. Through film, visual language, and a shared festival experience, the project aims to create a space where audiences can engage with jazz, while bringing awareness to it’s historical significance and continued reliance in society. The festival focuses on films where jazz is central to the storyline, exploring how it is used differently within each film to convey meaning, emotion and cultural significance. This highlights the versatility of jazz and demonstrates how it can be expressed and interpreted in a variety of ways through cinema.
