The Unlucky, Lucky Kids

My name is Marcus Tuiasosopo, and I am a South Auckland based artist of Samoan descent. I use oil paint and spray paint as my main medium and my practice represents Polynesian people within urban societies. In this medium, I aim to give an insight into my people and my environment and culture for those who are unfamiliar with it; whilst giving an artist shout-out to my peers in the streets of South Auckland as well as my Pasifika roots. To be poetic and artistically free is what I strive towards by telling stories of the people of both my Hood and Homeland. Growing up in S.A, I was exposed to the unique blend of street culture and Polynesian culture which ultimately influenced my style of art. I use a combination of realism and graffiti to create my work in a reflection of my unique upbringing. I do this for us, for those like us, and for those that came before us.
