The World of Minhwa - 민화 세계

This project explores how illustration and storytelling can help second-generation Korean children living abroad develop a cultural connection and identity.

The picture book is based on Minhwa, a form of traditional Korean folk painting, and its symbolic meanings. Chaekgeori, Hwajodo, Sip jangsaeng do, and Hojakdo were reinterpreted in a modern illustration style, making it easier and more enjoyable for readers to explore the unique Korean world. Korean and English were used together to provide an opportunity for second-generation children to become familiar with the Korean language.

Through this, children can increase opportunities to communicate with their culture and show how picture books can be used as a tool for cultural connection and identity formation.
