How culture manifests through stories, objects, and design

For thousands of years, pre-colonial Peruvian cultures used storytelling
as a means to disseminate culture. They used oral traditions and the
objects they crafted to create ever changing and evolving myths to share
their beliefs, reflect their relationship with the environment, and react
to the circumstances they found themselves in. These serve as open
dialogues that combine and recombine pre-existing elements in relation
to the context and the actions of the participants. When these stories are
cemented into the past, they are separated from their original context, seen
only through the lens of the western norm. The objective of this project
is to analyse a story, re-establish its contextual background, and explore
the objects that originally depicted it. In the presented work, a single tale
is visually represented through type and illustrations as a way to explore
their context and their cultures of origin.
