Bachelor of Design Editorial Identity Web Storytelling Cultural History

New Zealand’s documentation of Asian contributions throughout history remains limited. Of the 6000 officially registered historical sites in the country, only 17 relate to Asian culture. This representation is further skewed, as 14 of these explore 19th-century gold mining in the South Island. The remaining few sit outside of Auckland. This leads to an underrepresentation of Asians in Auckland's identity as a multicultural society, deterring young adult, second-generation immigrants with Asian backgrounds from exploring the cultural heritage that shapes their identity.

Uncover is an interactive digital timeline that explores the underrepresented stories of Asian Aucklanders across multiple eras. Through a multichapter design, the project aims to create a curated, credible and engaging experience, highlighting the hardship, resilience and prosperity that shape the region's identity in the 21st century.
