Underneath Moments
The Underneath Moments delves into the remnants of critical events from our characters' pasts that continue to impact their lives. I wanted to highlight how the past permanently affects the identities of every individual, so I reconstructed the event that was recounted above using Photoshop. My goal was to uncover any remnant of the memory that left a trace on my character. I chose a critical memory that has shaped who I am as an artist and discovered the trace that moment left behind. Motivated by a desire for this work to function as a reflection of our identities and the knowledge that the past will shape the future, memory plays a crucial role in character formation. The fact that our current selves will perpetually endure into subsequent moments. This work reveals the imprint that memory has on our personalities and how we reconstruct the past, thereby illustrating how our identities are shaped.
