Just being yourself is easier said than done
Unmasked is a narrative character-focused story discussing the struggles of acceptance through pretending to be someone you’re not, which is portrayed through the use of different art styles.
The main aim with this project was to reflect how changing art styles can play a part in displaying the concept of autistic masking. Along with that, I planned to look into what art styles reflect these different concepts best and can emphasize the difficulties of trying to completely change yourself. Using the range of realism to cartoon and blandness to uniqueness through proportions, colour and line art, it can make the differences more extreme, emphasizing the effort required.
Using methods like previsualization, contextualization and autoethnography I was able to improve my project and also my own artistic understanding.
