Comic, Manga, and Graphic Narrative Retail Store

Layering is important in comics, manga and graphic narratives to create depth and guidance. Having multiple layers - like the foreground, middle ground, and background, establishes spatial relationships in a narrative. During our site visit, I analysed the site as if I were approaching a new book; first, I observed the cover, then the sides and the back blurb, and eventually, I flipped through the pages. One interesting observation is that the tucked-away site exudes a sense of intimacy, shielded from the hustle of vehicles and people on Broadway Street and Remuera Rd. From these observations, I wanted to create a space that induces an intimate relationship between the customers and the books. With this, I came up with the idea of slowly unravelling the forms and spaces of the retail store.
