Voices Across the Punjab Divide

The Partition of India in 1947, was a crucial moment in South Asian history. It resulted in the largest mass migration in the world, displacing millions and affecting the culture and community of the region. The project aims to uncover and document the personal stories and experiences of those who lived through the Partition. By focusing on the region of Punjab, Vakhara aims to express the emotional impact of this event on families and communities through the use of a publication which includes research, interviews and archival imagery. The significance lies in providing an understanding of the cultural heritage and identity that came post-Partition. The research is relevant today as it addresses issues of migration, displacement and memories that continue to resonate in forced migration and identity.
