Lost in the comics

Vol. Infinite is a retrofit comic/ manga bookstore located at the corner of Balm Street and Nuffield Street, New Market. The name is inspired by the way traditional Japanese manga magazine is released.

Comic gutter, the in-between space where imagination takes place, the time and space changed through variations in panel size and shapes in comic/manga books. The artists construct a visual world that draws the readers in.

Taking inspiration from the printing dot on manga books, as well as the variation in size and shape of the panel. This bookstore aims to create a world of books for comic, and manga lovers to explore, roam and experience.

The street is activated through a few arrival points of the bookstore. People arriving at Balm Street will be attracted by the wooden sliding book and enter through the space created between the sliding door and the giant bookstore, light filters in gently which create a moment for visitors to enjoy reading and browsing in this area. Round back from the giant bookstore is the elevated sitting area. Visitors are welcome to read and enjoy a quiet moment here. People who arrive from Nuffield Steet will be welcomed by the coffee stand with morning sunshine. The passersby can grab a book to read from the exterior bookshelf. The bookshelf provides free books that are sourced by donation. It aims to create a sharing community and aim to provide a chance for people to learn about comic and manga culture.
