Patterns, places and pride

Weaving the Filipino Soul delves into nine distinct Filipino weaving
patterns, endeavouring to educate individuals about indigenous life while
fostering cultural connection and education. This project draws
inspiration from design practitioners such as Anni Albers and Kape De
Filipina, whose work has significantly influenced the trajectory of this
exploration. Employing a range of methods including screen printing,
illustration, mood boarding, journaling, and feedback, this project
meticulously transforms traditional weaving patterns into a modern
narrative. The essence of this endeavour lies in its potential to bridge the
cultural disconnect felt by individuals distanced from their Filipino roots.
By rendering the rich textile narratives of the Philippines into a
contemporary design dialogue, this publication not only serves as an
educational tool but also as a medium for cultural reconnection, thereby
narrowing the cultural chasm. Through the lens of design, Weaving the
Filipino Soul celebrates the legacy of Filipino weaving traditions, offering
a tapestry of cultural education and connection to individuals seeking to
rediscover their Filipino heritage.
