A redefining of the traditional concept of a comic store, located on the corner of Balm and Nuffield Street. Wham! offers a contemporary response and immersive experience that goes beyond what meets the eye.

The core of the design centres around a striking façade, featuring enlarged mid-century comic animations, shielded by frosted glass for added intrigue. Notably, a 'gutter'-like space in front of the store serves as an inviting attraction for a diverse audience.

Within the retail space, an air of mystery persists until Newmarket's evening hours. By day, the store displays a minimal selection, with Wham!'s true nature revealed only at night. Employees play a pivotal role, discreetly guiding visitors into the vibrant bar through a concealed wall panel, adding an element of surprise.

The interior seamlessly fuses modernist and minimalistic themes with the facade's playfulness, resulting in an inviting bar area. Here, patrons can enjoy comics with a drink or immerse themselves in a 'Speakeasy' atmosphere with friends.

Wham! aspires to harmoniously merge the retail and bar environments, offering adults an escape from everyday routine. This project injects fantasy and playfulness, allowing ordinary adults to step into a realm of creativity and imagination, providing a much-needed touch of whimsy in their daily lives.
