Whimsy, for me, is a light-hearted, playfully odd quality that transports us from the everyday. As I have experienced both joy and hardship, I’ve come to value art that uplifts and offers positivity. My art explores whimsy as a critical strategy—drawing on concepts of morphological ambivalence, biophilia, and nostalgia to create works that are visually and emotionally engaging, offering viewers something more than just an object—they offer a feeling. I work intuitively with materials such as wood, wool, metal, and clay, creating biomorphic forms that don’t have clear categorisation, which tease recognition allowing for the viewer’s imagination to find meaning in the work. I’m drawn to fluid forms, curves, and contrasts e.g. hard objects that appear soft. Ultimately, I hope to remind people to keep some whimsy in their lives, to value playfulness and wonder—small acts of joy that offer moments of emotional renewal in a turbulent world.
