Exploring identity through digital spaces.
Worldhopping is a series of interior paintings reprocessed from virtual photography, positioned between conceived notions of safe space in Furry Contemporary, and duality between real and virtual spaces. Furry Contemporary emphasises queer conversations regarding identity and body autonomy, and finding alternative ways of becoming known through embodiment as reimagined, anthropomorphic animals. Centered around VRChat, the paintings are created from personal photographs guided by the self exploration conducted in VRChat’s online virtual spaces.
Informed by the work and writing of Tommy Bruce and Paul Peng, Worldhopping explores the ways Furries navigate VRChat in parallel to the real, in the ravenous, metaphysical pursuit of their own identity. Worldhopping invites the viewer into the worlds of a cherished community, revealing constructed realities and personalities once left latent by the confines of a headset.
